Why We Make Our Socks in Portugal
We posted a new reel this week, recapping our most recent trip to Portugal. It’s short, a couple of minutes, and it’s us, at the factory in Manhente, outside Braga, talking about why we make our socks in Portugal. Not a polished brand film. Just the factory floor, the people who work there, and an honest answer to a question we get more than any other: why Portugal?
It Starts With the People
The short answer is the people. The longer answer is that the people are the reason everything else works, the quality of the knit, the responsible sourcing of materials, the fact that what ends up on your feet was made with real intention by people who care about what they’re producing. You can feel that in the sock. We think you can see it in the video. We’ve talked about the factory before in this newsletter. The town, the family that runs it, the yarns that come in from Spain and Portugal. But there’s something about seeing it, the machines, the hands, the place, that makes it real in a way that text can’t fully get to. Plus, the country is a beautiful place to visit!😉
Responsible Materials, Built In
Portugal's textile region has centuries of manufacturing history behind it. The infrastructure, the knowledge, and the relationships with responsible yarn suppliers are all concentrated in the Braga region. That's not an accident, it's why we're here. Sourcing yarns locally from Spain and Portugal keeps the supply chain short, the quality consistent, and the environmental footprint lower than the alternatives.
What Makes Arvin Goods Different
This is it. Not a marketing line, just the reality of how we operate. A family-owned factory, responsible materials, made with intention. When you buy a pair of Arvin Goods socks, this is what you're buying into.
Go watch the reel. It's worth it.
